Markers: saving and managing points on your chart
Markers are how you save specific points on your chart in Aqua Map, whether that's a favorite anchorage, a fishing spot, or a hazard you want to remember. Alongside the position itself, a marker can hold a name, a description, a color or symbol, and a linked photo, so you can build up a detailed picture of the places that matter to you.
Creating a marker
There are two ways to drop a new marker on the chart:
- tap the map to open the pop-up menu
, then select the marker button
on the right to place a marker right where you tapped. You can also drag the cursor to fine-tune the exact position before confirming; - tap the Camera button
to take a photo on the spot. This automatically creates a marker at your current GPS position with the new photo attached. Worth knowing: any photo taken this way is also saved to your device's regular photo gallery.
The marker info page
Tap any marker on the chart, and a quick pop-up appears , letting you either start a new route from that marker
or open its full info page . If you tap the marker's name in the center of that pop-up instead, you'll get a list of everything else nearby, see the Map information page for more on that.
From the full marker info page, you can:
- open marker settings
to edit the name, description, icon, and visibility;

- view and edit the marker's coordinates
; - view any photos linked to the marker
, and add or change them directly from this page, either by taking a new one or pulling from your photo library.
The bottom menu gives you the following actions.
- Share
the marker in GPX or KMZ format, via your GEC Account, email, or other apps. See the sharing page for the full rundown.
- Center
the map on the marker, zooming in and closing the info page.
- Go to
, which creates a route to or from the marker's position. - Create
a new ActiveCaptain marker, available only if you have ActiveCaptain data enabled.
- Duplicate
the marker, which creates an identical copy, automatically set to a white color so you can tell it apart from the original.
- Delete
the marker permanently.
Adding geo-tagged photos
You can attach a geo-tagged photo to your chart at any time, either by tapping the Camera button on the main screen or by editing
an existing marker's photo from its info page.
Using the Camera button creates a brand new marker with the photo attached and its coordinates set to your GPS position at the moment you tap "Use photo", so the location is captured right as you confirm the shot, not before.
